This land ISN'T your land - This land ISN'T my land

It's got one of those sing-a-long beats that people like Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey & Mary Traverse, Pete Seeger, and the other sing-a-long folks just adored for their easy to slide into rhythm. Woody Guthrie, the author of This Land is Your Land folk song road the boxcars to supposedly absorb the essence of North America. BUT DID HE?
Guthrie's interpretation of this manifest destiny/U.S.A., found in This Land is Your Land, was a fun song to sing in grade school, because it gave that old morning patriotism launch another boost after we reverently placed our hands to our hearts, recited the sacred pledge, and sang, with heartfelt puerile innocence the almighty Star Spangled Banner. Our eyes were wide, our minds easily twisted, and we bought the sales pitch – A-M-E-R-I-C-A!
America's name
Initially it is vital to understand the name America and from whenst it came. To save my fingers I will allow Stacy, in Legacy: let the games begin, https://www.createspace.com/3490061copyright 4/2010 to explain America as she is supported by her body guard, Elliot, while she mentally fences with an intelligence officer, Eric. Eric is seeking Dale, a Haudenosaunee, and Stacy's out to barricade his search. p.288)
“There’s an Indian too.” Clearly Eric had an immediate agenda.
“Gandhi?” Blue wonderment flashed, “He’s here too? Is he eating? He should be, because great food abounds here in Montanita.”
“Baby, Gandhi’s dead,” Elliot mildly disclosed and then turned feigned embarrassment toward the three men. “When they look like this they don’t need to be knowledgeable, right?”
“Are you sure he’s dead? Sometimes you think you got them all and they come back like cockroaches. Gandhi was a cockroach sort, wasn’t he Rich?” Stacy’s confused countenance corrected, “Wait, you’re Eric, right? And he’s Rich.” Befuddled suggested a remedy, “Would you mind wearing name tags?”
“Native American,” begrudgingly Eric offered.
“North, Central, or South America? Amerigo Vespucci had quite the ego planting his name on two entire continents; I just need clarification.”
My history lessons
Back in the 50s the people that owned this country prior to the Christian genocide of the continent's entire population were completely negated from history, unless they were portrayed as the bad guys. To the victor goes the spoils and the spoils permits the winner to re-write history to provide an untarnished image to the new holders of office. This is known as brainwashing and James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans, underscored the evils of the indigenous people and left whitey as lily like as ever.
Here I will permit Riley, a Russian immigrant, to explain to his lover, Blues, his confusion with American history;
“As a newcomer to our country, Blues, I was stirred by ‘no taxation without representation,’ and believed that the United States did not collect taxes. My mother warned me then, ‘don’t believe the funny papers.’ Surely it had to be her confusion in language terms because I had read this in our elementary text, so I brought the book home to her, and she said, ‘Funny papers; just stories to make you feel good.’ History my lady is just that; two words his and story put together to make a convolution of the two originals; history, implemented in order to create a very specific propaganda perspective.” Legacy: let the games begin, copyright 4/2010pg 123
Education is the political sealant
His+story, is a compound word that succinctly defines it. Children, every year, buy it hook, line and sinker. Why? Because they're children; the clean slate that is pliable.
Recently one of my former students posted a patriotic piece regarding the pledge of allegiance. I am proud of her because she did it. But what shocked me is that she's in college and has yet to know about Indian history. The most important book of the 20th Century was Bury My Heart at Wounded Kneeby Dee Brown. It documented the atrocities whitey, and once freed, blackie too, performed against the indigenous people. It was translated for everyone to know, yet my former student never even heard of the book, nor did she know about the genocide of the real people of North America. We have not only buried Crazy Horse's heart, we have buried the truth.
This continent does not belong to anyone that's holding the stars and stripes. We the people are thieves.
Oh those forwarded emails of hate
Lately I am receiving many forwarded email from many angry Americans who believe that they paid their taxes and social security so all the welfare recipients and new immigrants should starve or be beheaded – I will choose the latter as it is quicker. What all these keypunch/mouse clickers fail to realize is that they too are immigrants to this continent. Equally they conveniently fail to recollect the systematic slaughter, enslavement, torture and starvation of the people that originally referenced this land as home. The Indians did this with reverence, for they knew that it was the Earth that brought them their survival. Christians, and those that joined in the raping gang-bang of North America, sliced and diced the lands, waters and skies as if they actually had right to it. They didn't then and the still don't!
Land purchases
Real estate! Another trick of law. Will someone please explain to me how ANYONE can purchase property? Who was the original owner? Now there isn't a religions body out there that won't reply with the name of their Almighty deity. So to all of you devote whatevers – when does your deity get the payment for the land,air and water you claim you own? Did your deity also give you permission to desecrate his land, his sacred creation?
"How can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them?” Chief Seattle 1854
The Indians weren't stupid – they just didn't have steel and gunpowder.
The end of the world
Today I'm also hearing, through forwarded emails, about the end of the world; the anger of the Great Deity cutting all politicians to the quick because of their sins against this great nation of ours. Fingers are pointing in every direction, but there's only one direction in which to point – go to the bathroom, and take a good hard look in the mirror. If you are eating – then you are a slave owner. If you are purchasing clothing from third world nations, then you are a slave owner. If you take all-inclusive vacations on the sea, or on land, then you are a slave owner.
“But I paid my taxes!”
“Then you supported the greatest welfare system ever devised; the political system.”
This land is not your land. And this land is not my land.
Peace Baby
“Somehow timeshare owners like to collect their deeds of time and space in multiple locations. Timeshare’s a scam and how it’s defined as real estate boggles the mind.”
“Princess we didn’t believe it when The U.S. government wanted to buy Manhattan either,” playfully barbed his adversary.”Hear the Calliope: A sentimental journey on the Earth Ride, https://www.createspace.com/3492317

Why I will NEVER implement the term Native American:

My faithful Indian companion was right. Shortly after this politically correct designation was embraced by the populous anyone could claim themselves Native American! (see that Kim, the Princess remembered.)}

Oh sure.
And the Cherokees all get a check for the casinos.
Just a quick comment: "This Land is Your Land" is not a jingoist Patriotic song. Is a plea for Socialism. A verse that Columbia Records forced Woody Gurthrie to take out talked about turning a sign that said "private property" the other way. Good post, thoughhough.

I believe you should come out where I live and I can take you a few miles from here and you will take heart by finding out that the indigenous peoples and getting recompense, voluntarily, from "whitey". There is a mondo Hard Rock hotel and casino owned by the Cherokee Nation. Several more like it in the metropolitan area and the state of OK is replete with them.
